The Spanish Mastiff is a very old breed, widespread in Spain. Its history is intimately linked to that of the herds of sheep and their transhumance in the Iberian Peninsula.
It is used as a herd protection dog against the attacks of wolves and bears present in the Cantabrian Mountains.
